Need Addressed: |
Because of
economic problems, Yourcity Public Schools has eliminated instrumental music
education in the elementary schools. Since research shows important benefits
of music education for young children, this lack can have long term effects
on students in several academic areas. |

Program Synopsis: |
The target
audience for our Instrumental Music Program is the 2,000 students in grades
four and five of Yourcity Public Schools. Each student will learn about
orchestral instruments and hear four live chamber music performances. In addition, all students will attend a
full concert by a professional symphony orchestra. |

Outcome: |
The initial
outcome is that the students will gain knowledge and appreciation for
instrumental music. A longer term outcome is that the program will inspire
students to study a musical instrument in middle school. |

Yourcity
Symphony Orchestra requests a grant of $8,000 to support this program, the total
cost of which is $45,179. |
